Norman Chu

Board


Norman is retired and stays active in the local community. He currently volunteers at the Assistance League of Atlanta serving as the IT lead. He has previously served in leadership role as the President of the OCA Georgia Chapter (2009-2010, 1989).

He believes in giving back to the community and has organized programs to advance the social, economic, and political well-being of for API Americans. He has partnered with local community organizations to organize multi-company API mentor programs, Professional Development programs, Lunar New Year dinners, and Cultural celebrations. He advocates for the social and civil rights of API Americans.

Norman worked for AT&T (and Legacy BellSouth) and in different roles – IT System Administrator of mainframe systems, Standards representative for defining Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN) Standards Nationally and Internationally, Systems Engineering of new Advanced Intelligent Network (AIN) services , Service Concepts definition and Business Analyst for new residential, business, and wholesale products and services, Video Engineering for IP video streaming services (i.e. Uverse), and as a Cloud Architect for Software Defined Networks.

Norman has an MBA from the Coles Business School at Kennesaw State University (2009) where he was the top scholar in his class. He has a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering degree from Georgia Tech (1984). He believes in life long learning and continuous improvement. He applies both technical and leadership/management skill set to his life and is keenly aware of the latest industry and technology trends. He has provided personal/executive coaching to MBA students and mid-management professionals.

Norman is married to Kathy Wilson-Chu and they have one daughter (28 years old). They live in the Brookhaven area. His many interests include traveling, tennis, table tennis, board and card games, skiing, and family activities. He stays active playing tennis 2 times a week and is a season ticket holder to Georgia Tech football and basketball. Highlights of his personal life include the following proud activities:
  • Olympic Envoy program volunteer (1996) - walking in as part of the Singapore team in the opening and closing ceremonies.
  • Participation in the Carnegie Mellon Advanced Technology Innovation (ATI) program (1992)
  • Representing Georgia Tech in Table Tennis (1980)
